CM: Maignan now close to Milan agreement after €8m demands – the situation

Now that the summer transfer window is in the rear-view mirrors, the AC Milan management intend to work on some key renewals with Mike Maignan’s reportedly progressing well.

Calciomercato.com write how Maignan is considered a ‘pillar of the team’ for Milan, and a leader not just because of how good he is in his position but also from a character point of view, which means that the club obviously want to continue with him into the future.

His personality and performance levels are always high and he is considered a captain without the armband because of how vocal and supportive he is, on the field during games and even in training at Milanello.

For these reasons, Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani are carrying out negotiations to agree a contract extension with the Frenchman. His current deal is in fact expiring in 2026 and thus an acceleration is needed so as not to push things too close to the deadline.

The parties are ever closer to reaching an agreement. Milan are in contacts with his agency Excellence Sport Nation, and the dialogues between the player and the club are moving forward, with the clear desire to reach handshakes in the coming weeks.

The initial request from the agency was €8m net per season but Milan – who currently pay him a salary of €2.8m – have made it clear that they are ready to double his current pay and to get very close to €6m, including bonuses. The most recent contacts are bringing the decisive turning point closer.

    1. It would be huge, if the article backed up the headline in any meaningful way.

All I take from that is “the agency have their value, the club have theirs, talks continue”

Queue the article next week about how negations have broken down, and the one the week after about how a signature is close…
