CM: Mandzukic’s time has come – a good season finale is needed to change Maldini’s mind

By Oliver Fisher -

Mario Mandzukic is set to get a big opportunity to impress against Lazio tonight with time running out to convince AC Milan, a report claims.

As Calciomercato.com writes, the Croatian – since joining the – has played a total of 202 minutes across both the league and the Europa League, without scoring. However, against Lazio he could get his first start in the league with Milan because he can guarantee different characteristics compared to Rafael Leao.

Now that Mandzukic is physically better, he is viewed as much more functional from the beginning compared to when the game is in progress. The veteran striker knows the pressures of a big match like this and knows how to hurt Lazio, having scored 3 times in 11 games against them including his debut goal for Juventus in the 2015 Super Cup.

Convincing against the Biancocelesti could give him a season finale as a protagonist, and it would be the only way to change a future that seems written. Milan have reserved an option to extend his contract and at the moment it is not a hypothesis that they take into consideration, so its up to Mandzukic to change Maldini and Massara’s mind.
