There hasn’t been much to celebrate or get excited about for AC Milan fans in the last few days, but good news has arrived regarding Matija Popovic.
Calciomercato.com report that Popovic ‘will soon be a new AC Milan player’. The Serbian talent, born in 2006, will arrive on a free transfer from Partizan Belgrade where his current contract is set to expire.
After weeks of negotiations, an agreement was reached on the basis of a five-year contract, therefore until 2028. Popović will be in Milan in the first half of January to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on his contract.
In recent weeks Manchester City tried to hijack the operation, but Popovic preferred to stay true to his word having told Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio that he would be joining them.
After the last reservations about the non-EU slot were resolved, Popovic will soon become a new Milan player and it just remains to be seen whether he will instantly become part of the first team or if he will join the youth sector.
Popovic has been banging them in for Partizan’s U19 side, having amassed 21 goals and five assists in 25 appearances for them. He is also tipped to become a senior Serbia international in the not too distant future.
This is such nonsense
He did not keep his word nor has he been banging in goals.
The actual truth is he broke his word to Partizan and was then frozen out by the club. So he hasn’t even been playing in about a year
Seems like a real stupid and selfish behaviour by him and his reps, don’t be surprised when Milan get burned by this guy
Low risk, he comes on a free transfer. Should he not be the real deal we can ship him out for a nice profit. Truth is teams are at the mercy of unscrupulous agents who use these players as pawns. Everybody gets screwed in this highly commercial, greed-filled soapies called soccer.
Low risk that takes one non-eu spot. Is that wise? I doubt it,
Just another Moncada “banger” Lazetic like deal 👍🏼
