CM: Milan boss Pioli ready to trust a rejuvenated Calabria – his sale now seems unlikely

By Oliver Fisher -

After positive performances in preseason and against Shamrock Rovers, AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is ready to put his trust in Davide Calabria.

Milan went into the summer with the right-back spot being seemingly the position that needed addressing most urgently, but on the day of the Serie A opener against Bologna it no longer seems to be a worry.

According to Calciomercato.com, Pioli is ready to put his faith in Primavera product Davide Calabria as Pierre Kalulu continues to settle and Andrea Conti remains out injured.

Calabria has always worked hard, has always been available and now his sale on the transfer market seems to be a distant possibility. Of course no player can really be considered non-transferable and, in the face of crazy offers, nothing is 100% guaranteed for a player on whom Milan could make a clean capital gain.

However his flexibility (he can play both left and right-back as a deputy to Theo Hernandez) and his defensive work rate mean that Pioli, for now, is happy.

  1. Only to fail again, and again , and again…
Why don’t they straight-up tell us they can’t afford / dont want to invest money?

RB is the position we lack the most, we discuss it over months now, and miraculously, all of a sudden, the try to sell us the “rejuvenated” Calabria ffs…

He’s the new Abate, not even close to our levels, yet somehow we ‘re gona see his unskilled face for over a decade…

    1. I couldn’t agree more. Every year at beginning of season we talk about Calabria finally making the jump and becoming a consistent right back and every year he disappoints. This season will be no different. We have needed an upgrade at RB for years. Conti was supposed to be it but injuries and system suitability have made that impossible. Calabria is a back up at best. Buy a RB once and for all. Sell Calabria for the pure capital gain and sign Dumphries or someone. But pls no more Calabria nonsense.
