CM: Milan and Chaka Traore reach agreement over long-term renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have reached an agreement with Chaka Traore over the renewal of his contract, meaning they will tie down one of their biggest talents long-term.

Reaching the UEFA Youth League semi-finals was a sign that Milan’s Primavera side are heading in the right direction after years of struggle and it is thanks to talents like Traore that Ignazio Abate’s men were able to go so far.

However, the young Ivorian needed his contract situation resolving. His deal was originally set to expire at the end of last month but the club triggered a one-year option to move that to June 2024.

Now, Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com is reporting that Milan and Traore have reached an agreement over a multi-year extension. The 18-year-old will pen a new deal until 2028 next week, the journalist writes.

The left winger scored seven times in 22 league games last season having netted eight the season before, and he impressed in Europe too.

    1. Calabria, one of the only youth players to make it, was never loaned out.

Loaning our players just disrupts their career, and they face the same issue at the other club which is Italian clubs have zero faith in youth. Even in Serie B.

If we want to give these guys a chance we need to stop signing players in their position, and thinking we need 3-4 back ups for every position.

  1. There’s zero chance we’ll ever see this guy play in the first team.

We’ll just keep signing players every window in his position – sometimes 2-3 for the same position.

He’ll be loaned out until he’s lost all confidence and then find himself playing in Serie B. Or if he manages to keep it together when nobody around him has any faith in him, playing for our direct rivals.

      1. Pioli’s not been great at introducing youth players but the bigger problem is the sheer number of signings each transfer window.

By the end of this window alone we’ll have signed 5-6 players for the first team squad. We do every summer and might even add a few in January. There’s simply isn’t the space or the time to give these players a chance.

Even they do get a chance they need to perform at two or three times the level of new signings. There’s no way a youth player would’ve been given the same number of chances as CDK.

  2. If management & coach have courage , use him as leao deputy rotate with leao, sell rebic to give chaka room . That will save money from buying leao deputy

    1. Totally agree. Last season with rebic as rafa’s deputy wasn’t going well. Meanwhile Chaka showed glimpse of quality in Primavera side. But as we all know how Pioli treat youngsters I’m not quite sure he will get his chances, even if rafa got injured. Pioli will force our RW as LW, or even worse, force Krunic to LW.
