CM: Milan edge towards renewal of star man but Raiola’s release clause plans cause friction

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are seemingly edging closer towards securing the renewal of Gianluigi Donnarumma but a major obstacle remains, a report claims.

The dilemma that the Rossoneri face regarding the future of the 21-year-old has been well documented. His deal runs until 2021, meaning the club must either agree a renewal before next season or consider selling so as to avoid the risk of losing a prized asset on a free transfer next year.

There has been good news filtering regarding the situation over the last few weeks, with several reputable sources reporting that Milan are optimistic about a positive conclusion to the talks.

According to the latest from Calciomercato.com, there is ‘evidence of agreement on the renewal’, which seems to suggest that the salary part of negotiations has gone according to plan.

The report adds that the ‘main issue remains the release clause’ that agent Mino Raiola would like to insert into the contract, at a figure of €50m.

If Donnarumma continues his current trend of development a club will have no problem paying that, so it is understandable that Milan are apprehensive.
