CM: Milan eyeing Uruguay U20 star in event Gabbia or Kjaer leaves

AC Milan have wrapped up a deal for Tijjani Reijnders but they are not stopping there, with a Valencia centre-back now being eyed.

Calciomercato.com recall how it was Salva Gomis – a journalist for the Valencian radio broadcast Tribuna Deportiva – who broke the news that the Milan management are keen on signing Gonzalez this summer.

The 20-year-old made a bit of a first team breakthrough with Valencia last season making 17 appearances and scoring one goal, while Geoffrey Moncada and the Milan scouting team liked what they saw from him at the U20 World Cup with Uruguay.

His deal expires in June 2024 and thus he could leave for a transfer fee that is not too high and perhaps a resale clause included, while he has Spanish and Italian citizenship thanks to the origins of his great-grandfather from Rocchetta Belbo.

Milan will soon sit down again at the negotiating table with Valencia to try to unblock the Yunus Musah deal, and Gonzalez’s name may also end up being mentioned in the event of an exit.

Above all Matteo Gabbia seems like he could leave on loan with Frosinone, Genoa, Lecce and Salernitana all keen, while Simon Kjaer also remains to be evaluated too given Malick Thiaw stole a starting spot from him.

  1. People just namedrop Kjaer for no reason, I can guarantee you he’d have no intention to leave, we play so many games he’ll start his fair share.

    1. I bet one of the super-scouts here comes soon to say he’s “too old” and “too slow” and more surprisingly “injury prone”. 😀 😀 😀

  2. Kjaer has said he wants to retire at Milan. I’m sure he wants to play every game but probably accepts by now he’s not first choice, and is a useful (+ experienced) rotation option.

I could see Gabbia leaving, he’s likely never gonna be first choice for us but could do a decent job for a mid table side.
