CM: Milan face difficult Calhanoglu renewal – player happy to stay but top clubs are circling

By Oliver Fisher -

With the transfer market now over, AC Milan must turn to contract renewals and trying to tie down two of their most important performers.

The first is Gianluigi Donnarumma, but the other is Hakan Calhanoglu and there have been suggestions that it will be a difficult negotiation for the latter, who – like Donnarumma – has a deal expiring in June 2021.

According to Calciomercato.com, the ‘marriage’ between Milan and Calhanoglu ‘risks melting away’. Several top clubs from Spain and Italy have asked for information on the situation of the Turkey international, and there is still a significant gap between Milan’s offer and the demands of the playmaker.

The 26-year-old wants a raise on his current €2.5m net salary that he earns every year. Meetings with the club are always serene and constructive, but concrete steps must soon be taken with the clock ticking.

The former Leverkusen man would be happy to stay with the Rossoneri, but under the right conditions, and at present the two parties are quite far apart. In the next 10/14 days we will enter the hot phase of the negotiation, with agent Gordon Stipic ready to travel to Italy to conduct talks. One thing is for sure, he can not leave for free.
