CM: Milan handed Motta boost by comments from Barcelona

By Oliver Fisher -

Juventus and AC Milan are looking at Thiago Motta as their next head coach, a report claims, and some encouraging news has come from Barcelona.

Calciomercato.com recall that Xavi Hernandez has already announced that he is leaving Barcelona at the end of the season and numerous sources claimed that Motta is on their list of potential replacements.

However, the latest comments to the newspaper La Vanguardia by Barca’s sporting director Deco seem to drastically close down the Motta hypothesis: “I don’t follow his work on a daily basis and I haven’t often seen Bologna’s matches.”

It is good news for Juve and Milan because they are both looking at Motta in the event that Massimiliano Allegri and Stefano Pioli end their respective experiences in June.

As we wrote in a recent Substack update and have reported in the past few weeks, the only name really taken into consideration by the Milan management to replace Pioli that of Motta, rather than Antonio Conte or any of the other names linked.

Addressing the topic of Barcelona’s next coach more generally, Deco declared: “We haven’t spoken to anyone yet. It will have to be a person who espouses our project, who offers spectacular and ambitious football.

“Rafa Marquez? He’s here with us, he is young and is growing well. He has improved a lot and will continue to do so.

“Jurgen Klopp? He is a top coach, but I don’t think this is the time to talk about it. We have several options on the table and we will address the discussion later.”

Deco ‘s interview with La Vanguardia began with the topic of Xavi and ended with the statement: “We are still surprised by his choice to leave, given that we were planning next season with him.”

The close proximity between Barcelona president Joan Laporta and the powerful Portuguese prosecutor Jorge Mendes  – for whom Deco worked first as a collaborator and then as a partner – could lead to Sergio Conceiçao being hired from Porto.

    1. So was Inzaghi when Inter hired him,now he has the best team in Italy; I would rather give him a chance and go all out for Zirkzee to complete the attack.

      1. O no my friend, Inzaghi was new but not that new when he joined Inter. He infact won titles before he joined Inter and made it to the CL with Lazio a couple of times.

  1. Inzaghi was established before inter went for him.. he won the coppa italia with lazio.. making European competition with lazio every season.. gotta is a gamble. Let him stay in bologna next season and we see what he got
