AC Milan are willing to sell Charles De Ketelaere this summer if the right offer were to arrive, according to a report.
As Calciomercato.com report, De Ketelaere arrived last summer from Club Brugge in a deal worth €35m, which was almost 80% of the entire budget available for the summer transfer market.
However, he managed one assist and zero goals in what was a difficult first season. With the farewell of Paolo Maldini – his main defender and admirer – it seems that the Belgian is no longer as certain of staying at the club.
Stefano Pioli clearly does not put much faith in De Ketelaere who was also taken off at half-time of Belgium’s game against Israel in the U21s, showing that he is clearly going through a difficult moment.
The first hypothesis is a loan, to allow De Ketelaere to get continuous playing time at a club with less pressure and which can also highlight his potential. Concrete offers have not yet been received but the player’s agent is evaluating all options.
However, a permanent sale cannot be ruled out either. First of all, since CDK is linked to the Rossoneri with a contract until June 2027 and with a residual value in the balance sheet of around €28m, Furlani and Moncada have set a price that means there would be no loss.
Secondly, the difficulty of finding a club willing to pay this amount cannot be underestimated, in light of the investment made by the Rossoneri 12 months ago.
These are parameters that will have to be taken into consideration when pondering the question of De Ketelaere’s future. A future that could well be away from Milan.
Who is gonna be inclined to pay €28 mio for a player who has not put a foot right for a year and whose ability to put a foot right in the future is highly questionable (and questioned).
The guy is talented, no question about it, but I have my doubts on his capacity to get his head out of his a…s and pull out his fingers.
The future will tell …
He just doesn’t seem to enjoy playing. Maybe he doesn’t I don’t know. But a smile or at least some other emotion except frustration would be nice to see.
I think he did a good last game against Verona. I hope he fights on and trains well and is taught well during the pre-season and shows his worth so he ca redeem himself. It was sad seeing him play. I don’t think I’ve ever had that feeling towards a player before. I hope can go away next season 🙂

Calciomercato is wrong here. I didn’t watch the game (someone here did and gave us a valuable insight), but he was captain and reportedly played well. He was substituted at halftime because it was a friendly, to give other players some playing time.
I was about to comment that. also in the minutes he played he made kdb esque passes which shows the kid hasn’t forgot how to play football it must be Pioli limiting him. Whatever happens to him I wish him the best because I believe he is a top player
Yes, i remember the same comment. It was insightful – shame i can’t remember who wrote it. I tried to reply to it but for some reason wasn’t allowed to post. Something about duplicate posts.
In fairness to Maldini it was the right idea to spend the majority of the budget on one key player last season.
The position was right – a player who could replace Brahim who would likely go back to Real. The fact that CDK had also played RW and CF meant that he also provided other options.
Had CDK worked out it could’ve really helped Milan push on. Had he played to his potential (and Pioli not rested 8-9 first team players in Serie A matches) it could’ve been the difference in games against the likes of Cremonese and Empoli.
Unfortunately the risk with this strategy is that it doesn’t work out for whatever reason. Many transfers don’t work out in that players don’t produce the same or better form at their new clubs. Sometimes players have poor first seasons and then things start to click.
Because of these risks it is tempting to take a scatter gun approach to transfers signing lots of players and lots of players for the same position. But that doesn’t usually work either due to the amount of upheaval.
If you’re going to take the one-key-signing-per-transfer-window approach then it usually makes sense to sign established players.
Let the youth players come from your youth team where you’ve seen the players grow, tested them at each stage, and where the fans will usually have a bias which will take the pressure off.
We could’ve had Cristante and/or Locatelli instead of betting the house on Tonali.
Couldn’t agree more. Have been saying the exact same thing. You cannot have a YOUTH POLICY then become impatient after ONE season if the youth you scouted for years and have put time in to develop don’t achieve the development you wanted after only ONE season – especially those youth coming from different league and having to earn a different language, culture, system, tactics, etc…
Question: IF we sign this Turkish kid Guler to replace CDK – Will the same impatient fans (and Ownership) screaming that CDK is trash and that we should sell him already other younger players (Adli) after only ONE season be as impatient with Guler??
Time will tell.
This is so strange situation abut De Ketelaere and AC Milan owner philosophy .
It seems like they only needs some money.
In media they released info that they wont young players, with possibility to grow, but in realistic, they only want buy cheap sell expensive kind of players.
Cardinale, took club on 600 million vendor loan, and it is obvious that he can’t repay the loan. He does not have the money to pay loan and he will sell players to gain net profit at end of the season from which is going to repay to Elliott.
Selling player for profit ???? What are you talking about . How much profit we have from donnarumma, kessie, hakan, romagnoli? Are we talking the same AC Milan ? This club dont have habit to sell player for profit , sorry it is not AC Milan way , they will choose to keep player until contract expire
Nonsense. New owner, new policy. There was clearly a shift in strategy, all the players are extended before they enter their last year of contract now.
Dollarumma and Kessié made the fans believe they would stay, they probably did wait the last time to get more leverage on the negotiations. The front staff learned from these mistakes. As for Romagnoli, it was probably the plan to extend him until he wasn’t useful anymore considering his high salary with Tomori and Kalulu playing well.
Spot on 💯
And let’s not forget, without Kessie we would not have won our first Scudetto in over 10 years – that is a FACT – and one that some conveniently choose to ignore
Erm Kessie went to the Africa Cup of Nations and was missing for most of January and the beginning of February.
This was when Tonali finally stepped up and was also the key part of the season where Milan settled into the run that took to them to the title.
Sure Kessie was important but that experience showed we could cope without him.
Could you please stop siding with greedy agents and players v the club you are supposed to support.
Maldini’s refusal to bow to the unreasonable demands and behaviour of these people, and insistence that players actually honour their commitment to their contracts, was essential to building the sort of mentality that actually turned the club around.
It sent a clear message that the club was bigger than the players, and the club valued integrity and loyalty.
So many fans miss this crucial point because they once sold some players on Football Manager or FIFA.
Keep your delusion to yourself please.
Give him another season he will break the ice
What a terrible signing by Maldini. Have you guys seen that guys Moncada scouted, Thiaw, play for Germany? /s

😆😂🤣
😂😂😂😂
It really amazed me.. every article that has CDK, Maldini is mentioned (whether just in general terms or whatever but his name is always attached somehow so it sticks) but no Moncada….go figure. This is the part that bugs me.
