CM: Milan have renewal of full-back in their minds after excellent recent performances

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have the renewal of full-back Davide Calabria in the back of their minds after his recent resurgence, according to a report.

Calabria seems to have found his groove again for the first time in over a year. We saw what the Primavera graduate was capable of under Gennaro Gattuso when he showed excellent consistency, but that vanished in a difficult 2019-20 campaign.

Towards the end of last season though the Rossoneri full-back found the right condition physically and began to undergo a resurgence just as other members of the team did, and now he is one of the first names of the team sheet having carried that on.

According to Calciomercato.com, Calabria had offers in the summer window from Cagliari and Fiorentina above all, but he did not even entertain them for a moment as he always wanted to stay at Milan and carve out a starting spot, and his priorities have not changed.

It must be noted that the 23-year-old’s current contract is set to expire in 2022 and therefore the issue of his renewal will soon come to the fore.

The priority though for technical director Paolo Maldino – who likes Calabria a lot – and sporting director Ricky Massara is tying down Calhanoglu and Donnarumma, but for Calabria everything will be clearer early in 2021.
