CM: Milan planning January loan-with-option bid for striker amid form dip

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are planning to take advantage of Jonathan David’s dip in form and his contract situation to try secure him on more favourable terms, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com report that Geoffrey Moncada and the Milan management are studying the idea of signing a striker as early as the January transfer window, given that Noah Okafor is currently considered Rafael Leao’s replacement while Luka Jovic is yet to make any real contribution.

With Olivier Giroud’s two-match ban, Stefano Pioli must choose between either playing an out-of-form Jovic and hoping he sparks into life, or playing Okafor down the middle again like he has done before off the bench.

That worrying dilemma is exactly why the Rossoneri are still following Jonathan David closely, having tried to sign him at the end of the summer transfer window from Lille but without success.

The Canadian is struggling this season having netted just two goals in the league (he scored 24 last season) and Milan could try to take advantage of this situation, as well as the fact his contract expires in June 2025.

His valuation will certainly be lower now and in a couple of months when the window reopens Moncada is planning on submitting an offer which would be a paid loan with an option to buy.

The alternative remains Adams of Montpellier whose value is €15m at present, after his excellent stat to the season with seven goals in 11 appearances.

    1. If the management likes to gamble they would already have bought him . Also it’s known that players want quite some times to force a move by playing badly. David it is his first season that don’t score much check the stats last season the year before and the year before. The problem it’s not this season but if we do manage and get him if he wants to reignite himself and start scoring. Otherwise his valuation wouldn’t be 60M so yh if he comes and reignite himself Milan gonna get striker for the future finally. But my question is why they didn’t get in the beginning of this season Santiago gimenez or Gift Emmanuel Orban if they wanted a striker because jovic didn’t have too good stats and he wasn’t even in fiorentina plans so why we got him? The same goes for Musah he doesn’t provide something useful

      1. Lol re Musah, ignorant comment. As to why we didn’t sign one of these other players in the summer, it’s quite easy. We had already spent 130m euros on new players. There was nothing left to spend for players worth at least 20m then, nevermind the 60m being asked for David. Also, Orban has 3 goals in 11 games for GENT, so not much better than David at the moment, and possibly worse, since we’re talking about the Belgian league. Let’s not make a CDK 2.0 mistake.

    1. Last season he was mostly a penalty scorer.
Yes last season he scored 24 goals in Ligue 1, but 10 of them were from a penalty. 14 goals in Ligue 1 from open play/freekick/corner doesn’t seem that impressive, and this season his stats are horrendous.
So I hope our administration question themselves before trying to sign him, but perhaps they saw in him something that I missed.
