CM: Milan meet with agent of €23m Lille winger and Croatian playmaker compared to Modric

By Oliver Fisher -

There is no time for pause at the moment as AC Milan’s market continues to proceed full steam ahead, with an interesting meeting today.

A video has emerged showing agent Marco Branca from the agency FIRS1 Sports arriving at Casa Milan this morning. What is perhaps most significant about this news is that Branca works with clients who have been repeatedly linked with Milan over the past couple of windows.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara met Branca to discuss several young players but in particular two profiles very popular with the Rossoneri: Jonathan Ikoné of Lille and Lovro Majer of Dinamo Zargreb.

Real Betis and Borussia Dortmund are big admirers of the former, who is valued at €23m after a season in which he won Ligue 1, and a percentage on future resale should be added to that too. It is a figure that Milan, at the moment, considers excessive.

Majer however could be a real opportunity. The 23-year-old playmaker has been compared to Luka Modric in Croatia after a season with 8 goals and 7 assists in 31 league games. Milan will reiterate their interest and ask for information on the price as he is a profile which falls within the parameters set by Elliott.

  1. Majer is really good, but Dinamo declined an offer of 15mil in January from what I know, the would ask for 20 + at least 5 in bonuses. I don’t think Milan would spend that much at the moment on a player from Croatia, sounds unrealistic as they passed on Olmo for similar amount.

  2. 23M for Ikone is “excessive”????? If we cannot afford to buy a starting player for 23M we are doomed! Sell the club Elliot!

    1. I don’t think it would be a problem to pay 30M for a better player, more proved. The problem is paying big money for players that fail. Remember the latest, Leao? He was overpaid by a lot! Piatek and Paqueta? Lost a bunch of money on those deals, better to be careful and try to get the price down then act like you are Man City and you have sheiks pumping unlimited money through sponsorship deals. People are so unrealistic today.

      1. Leao is still young and holds alot of value. Paquetta is killing it at Lyon and is def worth what we paid for him now. Piatek has been poor. You aren’t going to get every transfer right. I don’t believe we will pay 40M on a better more proven player. We didn’t do it for De Paul and apparently we wanted him at all costs. Looks like we could lose Tonali. 23M in today’s game is not a lot of $$ unfortunately. I don’t agree with the values of all these players but that is a different conversation. Values are what they are and if we don’t pay (like Olmo, Chiesa) someone else will. We desperately need an upgrade at RW as Castellijo is horrible and Salesmakers (love his heart) is limited offensively and is better off bench IMO. I don’t think we are a club that is going to spend 25-40m on a player. So to be linked with these guys like Ziyech, Vlahovic, De Paul, is a waste of time. We are looking for loans or free transfers. Not a recipe for success IMO. Just disappointing we finally got back into CL and looks like it could be a short stay.

        1. Yeah, that is why they got to second place, because they don’t know what are they doing. You can’t overspend without penalties today, so yeah, no point in breaking the FFP with big transfers. Do you see Barcelona and Real Madrid? In huge debts, Real could not afford to buy anyone last year. Inter has to make 80M€I in this transffer window, decrease wages for all pleyayers, your income has to be in line with the transfer fees, Milan have less income than Eintracht Frankfurt, Sheffield United and a lot more clubs in that range of quality, so they are doing amazingly with the funds available. Be realistic, this isn’t footbal manager, you don’t go back to the top in 1 or 2 years…

        2. And yeah, my opinion is that Leao will never be a top player if he doesn’t try harder, he looks like Pogba in Man Utd excluding this season, same face expression during matches. Like he doesn’t want to play. If they can get 25M or more they can get a better player that actually wants to try hard. I think that If Ibrahimovic did not get him to show that and push hard, no one ever will. I don’t see the point of selling Hauge and leaving Leao, if he keeps playing like that his value won’t go up, even Wolves fans are highly against him going there from what I saw, they have seen him play.

    2. If what Gadizis says is true “quality player is needed”
Then play makers like Majer need to brought in even if 20 million, otherwise dream of being competitive in CL or Seria A
Maldini and Massara have missed out on quality player to be signed by other clubs spending more.

Maybe Bellotti is the answer on a free for ACM?

      1. As much I love to see Croatian players in big clubs and Milan especially I have been watching Majer in live matches since he was 16-17. He only exploded this season, before that he was a talent. You would pay that much money for a player with 1 good season in Croatina league? Really? I think you can get better players for that money. Like Olmo for example and I know Boban really really wanted him in Milan. Olmo is a top quality player, Szoboszlai also, to bad we missed out on both of them. I still rate Majer a bit below them.
