CM: Milan perform U-turn on Mirante – why they will offer him an extension

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan seem to have done a U-turn on their previous plan to let Antonio Mirante leave and will now offer him a new deal, according to a report.

As Calciomercato.com report, the plan of the management is to go into next season with Mike Maignan, Marco Sportiello and Antonio Mirante as the goalkeeping department for the 2023-24 season.

With the Frenchman untouchable and Sportiello arriving on a free transfer, news has arisen about a possible extension for the former Roma man, but Ciprian Tătărușanu will leave when his deal runs out.

Regarding Devis Vasquez, the January 2023 signing is destined to depart after just six months without any official appearances, despite having a contract expiring in 2026.

Paolo Maldini wants to free a non-EU slot with the departure of the Colombian, while Mirante’s renewal would cover the role and also be useful in the composition of the squad lists, which require a certain amount of home-grown players.

    1. It’s in the article. To have someone to release this summer to be able to buy 2 “non EU” players this mercato. Kamada + Ruben would not be possible without this. Smart little move.

  1. Yeah its really dumb fill in the non EU spot for a 2nd or 3rd GK, i dont know why we signed him in the first place.

    1. Vasquez was brought for 470k during Maignan injuries and Milan only have Tata and Mirante. What’s stupid is iif a Technical Director didnt buy any or spend 20 mio for 3rd GK.

    2. He’s young lol. Who’s to say we don’t use him in the future??? Who knows. Not every player purchased – esp young players from foreign leagues will come in and contribute immediately LOL. Why would anyone think that??
