CM: Milan rejected January offer for Daniel Maldini days before senior debut

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan rejected an offer from Crotone for Daniel Maldini in the January transfer window, according to a report.

Stefano Pioli was forced to use a different strike pairing for the 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona due to Zlatan Ibrahimovic suffering with the flu, and that opened up a spot in the squad for Maldini Jr.

The 18-year-old looked like being an unused substitute until the third minute of injury time when he came on to a positive reception, though he was unable to help Milan find a winner against 10 men.

According to Calciomercato.com though, it could have been a different story altogether. They claim that Crotone returned to try and sign the teenager in January having tried in the summer, even holding a meeting at Casa Milan.

However, Milan preferred to decline the offer of a loan until the end of the season, and given Sunday’s crisis up front it appears to have been the right call – especially in light of Krzysztof Piatek’s departure to Hertha Berlin.
