CM: Milan still without a No.9 – the striker that should arrive to fill the spot

By Oliver Fisher -

Alvaro Morata’s decision to take the number seven shirt upon joining AC Milan has left fans with a rather obvious question: who will inherit Olivier Giroud’s number nine?

As Calciomercato.com report, it was Morata’s decision to go for the number that he wears with the Spanish national team, who he captained to a European Championship win this summer. The No.7 was previously taken by Yacine Adli, but he vacated it for the new addition.

The report adds that Milan do intend to fill the No.9 jersey. Giorgio Furlani, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Geoffrey Moncada remain vigilant and have already spoken about various potential operations, such as Tammy Abraham of Roma.

However, the hot name at the moment is Niclas Fullkrug of Borussia Dortmund, over whom discussions have already started. The 31-year-old Germany international would love to join and Dortmund are asking for a figure between €15 and 20m.

The Rossoneri are aiming to close the deal for less, but the player’s will could be key in the situation. He scored 16 goals for BVB in his first season there but they decided to buy Serhou Guirassy from Stuttgart which means he may no longer be the starter, and he seems keen to move on.

  1. Although Fulkrug seems as a smart move, why are we not going for J.David? or trying to maybe come up with a deal to swap Maignan for J.Alvarez (Ederson to Saudi almost done and Alvarez wants to leave) and then get Mamardashvili from Valencia for only 40M, since it’s his release clause… He had 29 saves in 4 games and only 23 yo at almost 2 meters high, a total beast!

    1. Milan doesn’t have the money to buy J.David neither Alvarez. And it doesn’t make sense to swap Maignan who is one of their most important players. Who will replace him?? Also they are looking for big physical striker like Abraham, Fulkrug, Morata. David and Alvarez don’t fit the system. Fulkrug Is great signing with low risk because he comes with smaller fee.

      1. J.David is in his final year, a 27-28M would be more than enough… we already had 40M for Zirkzee and Thiaw sale I think is inevitable…

Calafiori to Arsenal, Kiwior to Milan, Thiaw to Newcastle roulette should happen soon, plus since we already stole Pavlovic from Newcastle they don’t have many options for CB…

        1. and for Maignan replacement – Mamardashvili as I wrote, you never read… “better jump into comments before actually reading the entire post”

    2. As a keeper fully fit Maignan is miles clear of Ederson. Makes no sense.

Alvarez also wasn’t the profiles our coach wanted from a striker.

  2. He a great CF. But the issue is we will have two older 31 year olds as our focal point. Given we signed Morata we should look at a younger profile. 2 that come to mind are Jonathan David or given PSG are signing Osemieh, Ramos is now surplus. He is a great CF. Loan to buy would be great. Ramos is ideal CF for our play.
