CM: Milan turn from Cash to Royal – talks continue over potential €20m operation

By Oliver Fisher -

The signing that AC Milan seem to be making to most progress on is that of Emerson Royal, a report claims, with a potentially decisive meeting set to come.

As Calciomercato.com writes, Milan are continuing to work on the signing of a right-back that can compete for a starting spot with Davide Calabria and to replace Alessandro Florenzi, who is destined to leave.

Matty Cash was the number one target, but – after the closure of the Douglas Luiz deal with Juventus – Aston Villa are no longer in the position of having to make a sale and are now asking for €35-40m for the Pole. For this reason, in recent days, contacts have been intensified to sign Emerson Royal.

The Emerson deal is easier to negotiate than the Cash one because he wants to join. He has an offer from Villarreal which has been on the table for some time now but their project and the idea of a third spell in LaLiga does not convince him.

Milan are in talks with his entourage and are looking for a permanent transfer. The contacts have been positive and a verbal agreement has already been reached regarding the salary, the duration and the bonuses in his deal. Only details will need to be defined if an agreement is reached between the clubs.

In the next few days a direct discussion is planned between the Milan directors and their Tottenham counterparts to try agree a deal for less than the current €25m asking price. The Diavolo want to shake hands at €17m, and the feeling is €20m could be a compromise.

  1. Terrible deal if it happens. This guy is extremely overrated. I don’t even understand why he plays at this level.
Tackles per game (Calabria 2.4 – Emerson 1.6)
    Goals (Calabria 1 – Emerson 1)
    Assists (Calabria 3 – Emerson 0)
    Passing Accuracy (Calabria 87% – Emerson 82%)

20 million Euros for a full back who gets 18% of his passes wrong?
    Yeah.. what could go wrong?

  2. I would rather go for bartesaghi or jimenez. If your first team average age at 21, your wage bill would be tiny. You have great talent group and hot prospect player for the future. But if you want seri A champion and only want to invest 20m for fringe or outcast player, better change your scout management…

  3. I must admit I haven’t watched ER play but I’m curious what his speed is.

Fonseca uses wingbacks to help attack with the wingers and Calabria is no rocket. If ER is at least fast, you could train him defensively and use him for his pace in attack.

But if he’s not a good defender and no faster than Calabria, then I get the sentiment that this guy would be useless.

    1. According to foot datamb, there is not a single department last season where Emerson Royal was better than Calabria in 23/24 and was slightly better in duals and carrying in 22/23 (inferior in the rest).

So we want to spend 20M€ on a player who is most likely a downgrade from Calabria, knowing we recently signed Jimenez.
I’m on the camp that RB doesn’t need to be adressed right now (at least not before ST and DM), but if we really want a RB, at least get a good one.

  4. The few Tottenham games i have watched and he be playing. He is as bad as Calabria in crosses. No, i would rather (or wish) to keep Florenzi

  5. This would be one of those Ballo Toure type signing, where it’s obvious before he signs he’s not a good player. And then he has a disappointing season and we spend the remainder of his contract trying to offload him.

The best way to offload dead-wood is not to sign them in the first place. This guy is awful! Anyone who watches PL football knows this.

  6. Yet again, boring club with boring transfer move 😴

Even juve and inter doing better with their limited money. Not convincing enough to be tittle contender. Smh

Good luck enjoying your next banter season.

  7. We should wait… Wait… And wait… Until totenham drop the price. There is still long summer transfer time. Just give fonseca player in August.

  8. LOL this management team is Embarassing

    Emerson??? For 20-30M?? Ha!! Brilliant

Juve (who are crushing the transfer market) have Giuntoli and we have a banker in Furlani. Wonderful

BTW – Brighton signed Wieffers for 30M – and didn’t need to haggle and ask for a “discount” LOL. But hey, at least we are a profitable club!!!
