CM: Milan’s versatility man set to be rewarded with new deal until 2024 – the details

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan defender Davide Calabria may once again be called upon to fill an auxiliary role against Lazio tomorrow night, but either way he continues to show his commitment to the cause.

As Calciomercato.com notes, it was back on 22 December 2018 that Davide Calabria played from the start as a midfielder, alongside José Mauri and Hakan Calhanoglu in a 1-0 loss at home to Fiorentina.

Even in the summer friendly against Novara Calabria was tried in the midfield, and in the days leading up to the Lazio game, at Milanello Calabria was also deployed next to Rade Krunic.

Everything revolves around Sandro Tonali, who will try to recover from the muscle problem sustained against Sassuolo. Today Pioli said he was optimistic about the return of the former Brescia star, but tomorrow morning’s session will be decisive.

Should he not make it, Calabria is an option as well as Hakan Calhanoglu, and the Primavera graduate has declared before that it is a role not too alien to him.

“At the beginning I played as a midfielder in front of the defence, then I moved on to play mezzala in a three-man midfield, I also played as an attacking winger. Finally I specialised as a full-back, both as left and right,” he said.

The report adds how he has become a staple of Pioli’s team on the right side where he is preferred to Diogo Dalot, and the Milan management has great confidence in the player, so much so that in recent weeks there has been a contact with his agency over a renewal.

The parties are moving towards renewal until 2024 with a raise on the current €1m net salary he earns. Dialogues are underway, with Calabria central to the Milan project.
