CM: Moncada still ‘bewitched’ by Kone – he could become the ‘Plan A’

By Oliver Fisher -

Geoffrey Moncada often returns to targets that he has pursued in the past, and that seems to be the case with Manu Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach.

As Calciomercato.com report, Milan have encountered difficulties in signing Youssouf Fofana from Monaco. His contract runs out in 11 months but the Ligue 1 side want more than the €14m plus bonuses that the Rossoneri are willing to offer, so alternatives are being looked into.

Kone was followed for a long time by Moncada who watched him when he played for Toulouse, and he has been left ‘bewitched’. An attempt was made to sign him in the summer of 2021 but he chose the Bundesliga side, who offered more money.

The 23-year-old can play either in a double pivot or as a mezzala, and he combines physical strength with technical quality. He has played in all the youth teams with France and started both of the games at the Olympics so far under Thierry Henry.

Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is also a great admirer of Kone, who is currently valued at around €20m and has a contract which expires in 2026. In a market in which the ‘plan Bs’ for Milan have often become the ‘plan As’ – like what happened with Joshua Zirkzee and Alvaro Morata – the idea could gather steam.

Given that he has been followed for a long time by the directors and that he perfectly embodies the characteristics of a young and talented profile, he ticks a lot of boxes.

          1. That irrelevant..do you wanna talk about price of players or skills of players at certain age?

When ibra was coming up the release clause weren’t a thing

  1. BS. He’s another random MF, what does he have that Zeroli doesn’t? If the idea is to sign a DM then Ricci is the one to go for.
