CM: Pioli wants a new centre-back by early January – the two names on the wish list

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli is hoping to have a defensive reinforcement available to him in the first week of January, a report claims.

The absences of Simon Kjaer and Matteo Gabbia are weighing on the current squad, as with Leo Duarte and Mateo Musacchio seemingly not part of the club’s plans it leaves just Alessio Romagnoli and Pierre Kalulu holding down the fort.

According to Calciomercato.com, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were rightly praised for their summer transfer window but now cracks are beginning to show because of the fact they failed to sign a central defender and a midfielder with characteristics similar to those of Franck Kessie, plus a centre-forward.

The report adds that Milan are now trying to speed up the Ozan Kabak operation as the Schalke 04 defender is at the top of the wish list for January.

Mohamed Simakan of Strasbourg is also an option, while the ideal for Stefano Pioli would be desirable to be able to count on a new defender in the first week of January in order to ease the emergency. The match against Genoa was a rather obvious signal that the squad is far from complete.
