CM: Two signings from Chelsea shine as Milan record 7-0 win in preseason opener

By Oliver Fisher -

It may have only been a friendly against a Serie C side, but the first outing of the preseason at Milanello for Stefano Pioli’s side brought positive signs.

Calciomercato.com recall how there were flashes of very interesting play with the new 4-3-3 system, which saw summer signings Marco Sportiello, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic all start.

Pulisic was the most eagerly-awaited man for those watching and he was the main protagonist of the match with two assists on the scoresheet, both for Tommaso Pobega, as well as some excellent dribbling and decision-making.

The USA international just needs minutes and confidence to return to the one who amazed everyone at Borussia Dortmund. He played well on the left given Rafael Leao’s unavailability, but he showed his technique, vision and ability to try things.

Lofuts-Cheek had an impressive game against Lumezzane too and could have had a brace if it weren’t for two excellent saves. He showed some good passing and dribbling, operating between the lines as he did several years ago with Maurizio Sarri.

The Englishman has such a physical build that he needs time to get into shape but Pioli talks a lot with him because he wants to make him a pivot in his new midfield.
