CM: Sampdoria ask Milan for Gabbia – the response from Maldini

By Oliver Fisher -

Sampdoria are strongly interested in signing Matteo Gabbia from AC Milan but they have so far not found an agreement, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com write that Gabbia is a concrete idea for Sampdoria as they look to bolster their centre-back options ahead of what will hopefully be a brighter 2022-23 campaign given their struggles last season.

The courtship has lasted for several months considering that back in January Sampdoria almost fully agreed a deal for the 22-year-old, but in the end he remained at the club and saw limited playing time.

Faggiano – the sporting director of Sampdoria – contacted Milan to ask about the possibility of signing Gabbia on loan with the option to buy.

However, at the moment Milan are not open to idea of losing their Primavera product permanently because they see him as a very precious element both on the pitch and for the UEFA squad list regulations, which requires a certain amount of home grown players and academy graduates..
