CM: Sportiello has signed his contract with Milan – all the details

By Isak Möller -

Marco Sportiello will be AC Milan’s new deputy goalkeeper next season, as has been widely reported since January, and the contract has now been signed. Only the announcement is missing, therefore.

Milan have decided to part ways with both Ciprian Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante this summer. The Romanian has been the deputy up until now and although he has done well at times, he has been too mistake-prone.

According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Sportiello has signed his contract with Milan and will join on a free transfer at the end of the season. His deal with Atalanta will expire then and that’s why the Rossoneri jumped at the opportunity, securing an agreement worth €500k net per year until 2026.

This season he has started 13 games, the last one against Verona last weekend which resulted in a 3-1 win for La Dea. His arrival is essential for Milan in terms of the Serie A and UEFA squad list, which each require a certain number of home-grown players.

The fact Sportiello came through the academy at the Bergamo club means that he counts towards the eight players that need to have come through a youth sector affiliated with the national federation.

  1. Good work Milan!

I like to see them active early and clear plans being pursued.
This is what happened 2 seasons ago, signing Mike early etc.
Last summer was a disaster, largely due to the delays caused by new ownership

  2. I thought this contract was signed or agreed months ago.

In any event, this is much more like it as a number 2. He’s a good player that could hold down number 1 at every club from Roma down, with maybe 3 exceptions (Carnesecchi, Vicario and Di Gregorio).

Gasperini has been picking Sportiello ahead of Musso recently (which indicates that Carnesecchi will be the number 1 at Atalanta next season).

    Very good signing.
