CM: Theo Hernandez’s growth in both phases continues – the numbers show it

By Oliver Fisher -

Theo Hernandez’s development as a player continues and he is ‘one step away’ from becoming the best full-back in Europe, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that Theo is the only defender in the ‘top five’ European leagues to have hit at least 5 goals and 5 assists in the last two seasons. When looking at other top players in that position like Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, this year they have two goals each this season.

This year Theo Hernandez has slightly lowered his attacking output (5 goals and 10 assists) compared to the 2020-21 season which ended with 8 goals and 8 assists, but his defensive performances have grown.

The number of tackles made has increased in number and to 60% success rate, while the number of duels won has risen to 63%. His positioning, the timing of his interventions and other intangible statistics have also grown too, meaning the former Real Madrid man is now fundamental in both phases.

Theo Hernandez is ‘one step away’ from becoming the best full-back in Europe as the numbers show, and at 24 years of age he still has room to grow.

  1. Theo—Il Gazzella, a few months back him and Pioli discussed his role and growth, also recognizing his potential as Pioli encouraged him to attack, just do not let your defensive numbers/responsibilities diminish. This came after the World Cup qualifiers where he played on the French Nat’l team where Deschamps let him run wild….unbelievable stats. We have a team, truly a team that has humble stars in the making. So proud to be a follower of the Rossoneri, Forza Milan forever !
