Conceicao press conference

SM: Conceicao will not hold press conference before trip to face Bologna

Sergio Conceicao will not hold a press conference before Thursday’s game away from home against Bologna, we have been told.

In the past few weeks, it has not been uncommon for the club to not arrange a press conference before certain games. The team were/are playing every few days and sometimes there is not the time in the calendar nor the logistical possibility (due to travel and other factors) to stage them.

However, we have learned that Conceicao will not speak to the media prior to Thursday’s game against Bologna, which is a crucial contest in terms of the fight for the top four and represents a sort of last chance saloon for his side.

Given that the most recent fixture was on Saturday night, it is certainly not a timing issue as there should be a sufficient window to hold a presser on the eve of the game.

Moreover, after the Champions League exit to Feyenoord and the damaging league defeat to Torino, fans will have been hoping to for the coach to answer some particularly difficult questions.

It is not yet known whether there will be a press conference before the Lazio fixture on Sunday, but given the limited time it cannot be ruled out that there isn’t one for that game either.

  1. I’m really tired of this attitude. Milan looks like a scared little corporation hiding from its shareholders. You’re the coach, you can’t speak to the media? This act is getting old and it’s not even been half a season yet.

  2. The media asks stupid questions, we don’t have time for stupid questions. From next week when we’re bk to playing weekly I’m sure he will attend the conferences

    1. What are you talking about. Cuz the media will just stop asking “stupid” questions? We are Milan, we don’t hide. The media will never stop for that very same reason, we are Milan. This behavior is not understanding what we are as a club. No time for questions lol is hilarious since it’s all scheduled and expected. He’s the only coach in the world playing every 3 days? Please…No amount of time will fix what’s wrong if the people working aren’t right for the position. It’s not a matter of tactics but of heart and mental preparedness. His not taking questions shows a lack of mental preparedness and control. He’s out, has to be out. I doubt he’ll make it to the summer.

      1. @M, What is the relevance of the presser or Q & A session when the results he wants for the team is not visible yet?
Do you want him to go out there and start apportioning blames to the players that are unable to deliver what they were taught at the training ground?
Just in case you don’t know, the media has it way of demoralizing someone. Please, allow the man to focus on bringing the best out of his players.

  3. This guy is not up to managing a big club. Doesn’t want to answer questions, if I were him I wouldn’t want to answer for these poor performances either but It’s part of the job. Go back to the portuguese League please.

    1. K you got to let Fonseca go, sure he was punished for issues that are clearly on the players but it’s time to support the club. The dude Conceicao has played more games than had practices, how can anyone install tactics? Why do you want the coach talking to the media instead of working with the team. How can we complain about the players not trying and get mad at Conceicao for demanding their 100% at all times?

      1. It’s part of the job. You don’t go dancing around with a cigar like a big shot when the team wins 2 games after you’ve been there and then hide from the media when things aren’t going well.
This is the least of my worries with him. My biggest problem is the ugly style of play with players grabbing and diving all over the pitch. That and the fact that all of our offensive players have regressed under him. Just screaming at the players to play harder does not qualify as tactics.

    2. @K, you talk as if you have ever coached a football team before. Truth be said, the coach is really trying his best at the moment. Is just that the team needs an overhauling, sell the players that wants to leave and those that are not living to expectations. The owners should cough out money to sign players that will deliver the excellent play pattern that they are yearning for. They can’t go about buying rejected and abandoned players of other teams.

  4. Media makes stuff up all the time, there is definitely an anti Milan narrative. The paparazzi are so immoral in the way they cover this team. I fully back this decision, f gds, f republica, f sky, f longoni.

Olie what does Conceicao have to answer for? Coaches always say the same thing in these pre and post match interviews. Besides the players suck, he needs as much time with them as possible to unsuck them. What do you want, the coach to talk about his feelings or coach the d*** team

    1. I don’t think you understand the level of emergency this club is in right now. The media time slots are all pre-planned and scheduled. We are Milan and we hide from no one. Who cares if it’s a show or not, Mourinho went, Pep goes, it’s a show of unity and strength. Pioli went out before EVERY match no matter the questions he was forced to answer and he did his best to support the team. Not showing up looks weak and cowardly. The players work when they work and that’s it. There is nothing they will get done in 2 hours that will make any significant difference. Rest periods are just as important as “work” so the rests are scheduled in to align with the media schedule. You want them training from 4am to 9pm? They aren’t robots. So don’t really know what you’re talking about. Again, the problem with this team is not tactics. Tactics didn’t cause the Gabbia mistake or the couple of Mike mistakes, nor did it cause Leao and Theo to play like crap. It didn’t cause Musah’s behavior or Pulis to miss that PK. The difference between great leaders and bad ones are the people that can make swift and confident decisions based on feeling and wisdom. If Galliani were still in control (he would have hired an Italian first off) but he would be sacking this guy as soon as possible b/c he doesn’t have it. You guys won’t get it until we’re in a relegation battle. This sport is extremely difficult and competitive, we take for granted what’s required to stay competitive at the top level every year. It takes a certain energy and as soon as you let that dip, you risk losing it all and it goes away a 10x faster than it took to build it. Look at Man U, all that money and what do they have to show for it? Nothing, b/c the energy isn’t right at that club and now they risk losing everything they’ve built over decades. There is no more room for error for Milan, we are officially at an emergency fork in the road. One direction sees us regain our glory and the other sees us become a mid table team for the next decade. So two hours of extra practice isn’t going to do anything, just show up in front of the cameras, answers the journalists stupid questions, and move on.

  5. The only time I really want to hear him talk to the media is after a game. The press conferences before a game are all the same. He is going to only give generic answers to questions, say how tough the opponent is, his respect for the other coach, and is not going to divulge any lineup or tactics, so what is the point of the pre-match press conference other than to give the media the ability to add fuel to the fire. Post match press conferences are fine. at least then he can answer why he made certain tactical decisions and substitutions.

    1. And as the coach, you do it anyway. The players don’t want to give interviews either but it’s part of the job. It’s one thing if you’re winning everything and you decide to stop talking to the media, which would still be unacceptable but easier to sell if the team is winning. However, in this current state, there’s no room to mess around and this to me looks like a team in crisis. They’re announcing to the whole football world that they are in crisis with this kind of behavior. You think Ancelotti EVER wanted to speak to the media??? How about Pioli or Gattuso? No, but they did it anyway b/c they’re leaders. This for me is the nail in the coffin for this coach, I’m done with him. How can he ask the players to do things they don’t want to do if he isn’t willing to do it himself?

      1. “How can he ask the players to do things they don’t want to do if he isn’t willing to do it himself” wow that’s a brilliant comment . Totally agreed.
