Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi was full of praise for AC Milan after the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg, but admitted he is ‘worried’ about his side.
Milan went into the return fixture as the underdogs after the 1-1 draw, given the 20-point gap in the table. However, the derby has been a strange fixture this season with Inter failing to beat their city rivals on any of four previous occasions.
Sure enough, that strange Derby della Madonnina hoodoo continued for the Nerazzurri as the Rossoneri emerged 3-0 winners last night. Luka Jovic stole the show with goals either side of half-time, and then Tijjani Reijnders printed the tickets to Rome with a late goal.
Inzaghi spoke to SportMediaset straight after the full-time whistle and was asked for his thoughts on what was another tough night for his side and a second straight loss. His comments are via Football Italia.
“We’re sorry for our fans, who once again showed up in great numbers tonight. That’s football, you have to give credit to Milan. There’s regret for the first half, because based on what we created, we would’ve deserved more.
“In the second half, we conceded from a corner kick, and luck wasn’t exactly on our side either. After that, we did a lot less compared to the first half. Of course [I’m worried] – we’re not used to losing two in a row.
“We need to analyse both defeats the right way. We didn’t deserve to lose in Bologna, and tonight we ran out of energy in the second half.

“De Vrij’s goal might’ve reopened the match, but credit the to Milan: they’ve consistently caused us problems in all five meetings this season. We, myself first and foremost, should’ve done more.
“We have to keep going. There’s both physical and mental fatigue – we need to be stronger than all of that. This journey has brought us a lot of joy, but also some disappointments, like tonight. We should’ve done better. We lacked sharpness in both boxes at key moments of the game.
“It [tiredness] can’t be an excuse. We need to show maximum focus in the penalty areas, and tonight we didn’t. Every team is dealing with fatigue. It’s April 24th -there’s one month left, and we have to keep going with confidence.
“Tonight, Milan deserved it, and it’s only right that they’re going to the final. We’ll try to bounce back and give it our all on Sunday against Roma.”
They better not embarrass the league against Barcelona.
I sorta hope that they reach the cl final and then loses to Arsenal and then Napoli wins Serie A that would put a smile on my face 😀
Spoken like a true Milanista. We will support our cousins privately and in our hearts but if they win we’ll put on a show of indifference.
Well for me its more about if Inter gets into the final against an English team and still loses it will help Serie A coefficient ranking and especially if Fiorentina also can win the conference league while no Spanish teams wins any of the European championships it could greatly benefit the league in keeping a 5th spot for cl qualification which might also help us for the 2026-27 season.
I never wish for Inter or Juventus to win, never. but I’m ok with some other Italian teams having success.
Coefficients are calculated on the previous year only.
Any points earned this year would only go into determining the coefficients for 2025/26 season. It doesn’t help anyone except Inter if they get into the Finals.
Right now, Italy don’t have any chance in hell to overtake Spain for that 5th UCL spot in 2025/26, and any points earned now won’t be put towards the 2026/27 season.
I’d rather Inter just get kicked out by Barca at this point.
Well coefficients is calculated over several years of performances by the respective league teams performing in Europe and on UEFA’s website Italy is still ranked 2nd after England and Spain ranked 3rd closely after so not sure you are correct there.
@Martin Bernhard.
I am referring to the coefficient points that are used to determine that extra UCL spot for the next year.
Nothing Inter do this year will give Italy any advantage for the extra UCL spot in 2026/27.
And because Italy can no longer catch Spain for the 2nd place in coefficients for the current year, the extra UCL spot for 2025/26 is already gone.
Coefficient for individual teams are calculated based on last 5 seasons, so if Inter earn any additional points, it only benefits them.
So yeah… I’m not wrong. 😛
So it was because of Inzaghi that we got no added time 😅
I’ve no problem if Inter wins the champs…
Okay, yes I have, given that there is a certain Cahalogou in that team.
Apart from that, I support any seria team that wins the champs
