Before, and even after, AC Milan hired Paulo Fonseca, fans dreamt of Antonio Conte being appointed as the new head coach, and a report has suggested the dreams were not only one-way.
The end of the Stefano Pioli era was often tied with links to Antonio Conte, and whenever the former manager was reported to be departing, Conte’s name quickly followed, and vice versa – news about Conte’s desire to move back to management broke, and Pioli’s position changed.
There were suggestions that Zlatan Ibrahimovic had held meetings with the 55-year-old before Pioli was sacked, showing there was some interest from the club, and this was the dream of the fans as well – which recent wiretaps from the Curva Sud revealed.
Pietro Mazzara of Milan News writes that the dreams of Conte as the Diavolo’s manager may not only have been from one side, though. According to the report, he did ‘everything’ to be contacted by Milan in the summer – via the press or his own communications – hoping ‘until the end’ to be contacted about the position.
Furthermore, he would have ‘loved’ to coach the squad and admires it heavily, which he has admitted since. So tomorrow could be a test, of whether the management made the right decision or not. However, there may always now be a feeling of ‘what could’ve been’, especially if Napoli end the season with another title lifted.
mistakes were made. ofc he was never a real option for our cheap ways.
an expensive manager gets you 1st place or at least a real chance of it. a cheap coach gets you 8th place with potential to maybe finish 4th.
And now he’s presumably going to put us to the sword to prove a point.
The management of this club makes me feel things that I never thought possible. Like I actively want us to lose against Napoli just to stick it to this incompetent management. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t particularly like Conte, but he was our best chance at going for trophies with this squad.
U should never ever under any circumstances want your team to lose. The management of the team should be separate from your support.of the team
That’s because you are not really a Milan fan. COnte is terribly overrated. He’s terrible in Europe and he only wins Scudetto when his teams don’t have any European play. This is a guy who chose Lukaku over Oshimen. Napoli have had an incredibly easy schedule so far and have gotten very lucky in a couple of games with red cards and penalties. They will not be there in the end and in a year from now Conte will rage quit and leave Napoli in shambles. But I do suggest you go cheer for Napoli because you are not a Milan fan if you are hoping for them to lose because you don’t like the management.
Bro Conte almost guarantees you’re in contention for a league title within the first year or two. Terrible in Europe yes but all we need is to qualify based on the lofty expectations of Scaroni. Conte does leave the team in a shape where the mentality is good and for another decent coach to come in and put in tweaks here and there (Inzaghi, Allegri,Sarri). Like bro below says, u get what you pay for
fonseca is terrible in both. so was our lord pioli. Conte is not overrated. You get what you pay for.
Is he the best manager in the world? NO
Will you team have a fighting chance? Yes
the osimhen situation is not conte’s fault, i think conte would prefer osimhen any day, but his feud with the management (and possibly with other players) quite possibly made him hard to play without affecting the whole team.
A missed opportunity for sure.
You get what you pay for….
