Tuttosport: Contract hysteria weighs on Kessie – Milan made a big effort to keep him

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie is the centre of a storm at the moment as he seems destined to leave the club in June after what will be half a decade with the Rossoneri.

Today’s edition of Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan)  talks about Kessie, who is virtually certain of a place in the starting XI in Friday’s game against Udinese at San Siro but only because Ismaël Bennacer is suspended, so the Ivorian will partner Franck Kessie.

Kessie has never given the impression in the past that he is a particularly sensitive player given that he has often stepped up under pressure in big games at the biggest stadiums, but the hysteria surrounding the fact he is drifting towards leaving Milan for nothing has added to the pressure on him.

When Kessié’s choice not to renew with Milan became clear, the fans decided to openly show their disapproval as happened two weeks ago at home against Sampdoria when they booed him in the warm-ups and when he came off the bench, in the first of two consecutive matches in which Kessié started from the bench.

Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Çalhanoğlu decided to leave for PSG and Inter on free transfers but they were protected and defended until the end by Stefano Pioli, team-mates and the club, but Kessie is bearing the brunt of increasingly angry voices.

Milan did everything to keep him though, even offering him a salary three times higher than the one he currently receives, but they are now preparing for his exit with Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega returning from loan while Renato Sanches has been targeted.

  1. The only problem is neither Adli (CAM or CM), or Sanches (CM or RM) play as a CDM, so neither of them would actually be a replacement for Kessie.
The only one may be Pobega, but is he enough?

    1. Before January 2020, Kessie is also not a player he is in last season. We already have tonali as Kessie replacement. New players will be partnering Bennacer/tonali from bench. Sanches already plays in double pivot and he can also plays as no 10role

  2. “…so the Ivorian will partner Franck Kessie.” Lol, I didn’t know we also had Kessie’s clone. That would be a funny sight.

  3. When we played the derby and Kessie was substituted, guess whose hand he shook as he was leaving the pitch? Chalhanoglu. Thats clear enough. What is it with all the.press about him being sensitive and all that? PR Damage control?
Someone who knows he is in it for the money, why should he be affected or “depressed?” Total b.s. except his preferred suitors are no.longer offering what he hoped they would offer. Only then can he have the excuse to be “bothered”.
    Total nonsense.

  4. Big game player is a stretch.

He was horrible against atletico and most of the games he played in the champions league he was 2nd rate.

Against inter his mistake was the reason we conceded.

With the exception of last season he has always been goo for a big mistake every game and gave the ball away too much.

  5. i think, all playesr with contract drama play like shit.

remember romagnoli during contract drama? complete shit player. now he is better

so i guess just put these players on subs, let them come on subs

  6. Just use kessie until he tired,AC Milan pay his salary 2,5m euro/season so why not use him. I don’t care if he want leave free as long as AC Milan win scudetto or atleast win coppa italy
