Correa reveals why he rejected summer Milan move in favour of Atletico stay

Angel Correa has revealed that he was happy to stay at Atletico Madrid beyond the summer despite strong links with a move to AC Milan.

As we reported, Correa was the first choice to reinforce the attack for Milan during the summer window, with personal even having been agreed with the Argentine.

However, he remained at Atletico Madrid as a fee was never agreed with Los Rojiblancos, and Milan opted to sign Ante Rebic on deadline day instead.

Calciomercato.com recently claimed that the 24-year-old strongly wanted a move to the Rossoneri in the summer, but respected Atlético Madrid who believed in him when he had physical problems, while Mundo Deportivo suggested that the idea of Milan signing Correa is far from over.

Correa has found more space in the starting XI under Diego Simeone due to Joao Felix’s injury, and he spoke to Spanish radio station Onda Cero about his current situation.

“I knew that several teams looked for me, Milan wanted me, but in the end the club decided that I should stay here and I’m happy,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

“My family and I are very happy in Madrid, I love Atletico. I have a lot of things to improve and give to the team, I hope to have a great year.

“My role? Second striker, Simeone knows it and we talked about it.”
