CorSera: Four days of truth – Milan must rediscover spirit ahead of litmus tests

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan recovered from their midfield defeat against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League by beating Frosinone, but the feeling is that the litmus tests are yet to come.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports this morning, Milan remain six points away from top spot in the Serie A table after Inter beat Napoli 3-0 last night, but the Rossoneri do not intend to give up the race for the title.

Milan have an unobstructed week of work ahead of them given the next match is scheduled for Saturday at 18:00 CET against Atalanta pitch and the squad will be able to take a bit of time to prepare for a big game in Bergamo.

However, four days after that Milan will fly to Newcastle to try and perform a miracle by reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League round of 16, hoping to have Rafael Leao and Ismael Bennacer as starters. In about ten days we will really know if Milan are emerging from the crisis.

Four days. This will be the period that will separate two of the most important games of the season for Milan in this month of December which promises to be crucial for the club’s ambitions. Milan have won two consecutive matches in the league, an event that hasn’t happened for a month, and now it will be the matches against Atalanta and Newcastle that will tell all.

In the league Milan need to stay as close as possible to Juve and Inter which, in the recent period, seem unstoppable. In the Champions League, hopes are slim to none but there is still the Europa League to fight for.

What will matter most, however, will be the attitude of the team: long gone are the times at the beginning of the season when players in red and black entered the pitch and attacked the match. Spirit needs to be rediscovered, and the right stimulus is there.
