AC Milan’s decision to sign Alvaro Morata during the summer transfer window was not met with an entirely positive reaction, but the early signs from the striker are very positive.
Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning that Morata is ‘more than a striker’ and is now ‘a leader’ for this Milan side. In a very short time the Spaniard has conquered Milan with goals (he scored against Torino and Lecce), but above all with his words and the standards he has set.
One of the things that was noticeable was the fact that he ran to hug the head coach Paulo Fonseca after Matteo Gabbia’s winning goal in the derby, amid the rumours that the Portuguese was going to be fired without a positive result.
In recent years – especially in Spain – Morata has received a lot of criticism that has certainly hurt, but has also made him grow and mature. Now he is stronger for it, and he was able to overcome the negativity but also some difficult personal circumstances.
At almost 32 years old, the former Atletico and Real Madrid man has now reached maturity, not only as a player, but also as a man. The choice to shave his hair as a sign of closeness to children with cancer is certainly the gesture of a true champion.
After having led Spain to winning the European Championship, Morata is now doing the same with Milan. In addition to his technical qualities, Alvaro was also bought by the Rossoneri for his personality and his leadership, as shown in the comments he made about the responsibility of being at such a big club.
The Rossoneri needed a point of reference and Morata is that. Tomorrow evening Fonseca’s side will return to the field against Bayer Leverkusen to try to get their first points in the Champions League and Morata will be there, having overcome bursitis to feature and score against Lecce on Friday.
Even if you don’t score boy. Do it for MILAN. FORZA MILAN
I think most fans (myself included) thought Morata was not the ideal primary purchase for the attack.
Since he has played in the hybrid no. 10/9 role he has been excellent and helped out in midfield, the department where the team needed the most improvement after last season.
His seriousness and leadership has changed our team in a very short time. I just hope he can stay injury free.
I still think Zirkzee would have been amazing with Milan in Morata’s position while Tammy would alternate with Alvaro at CF but that ship has sailed and if Zirkzee would come back to Italy it would probably be to Juve for a Motta reunion.
That’s ok as for now we will enjoy
Leao/Tammy/Morata/Puli quartet.
I have said Morata has been one of the players I’ve really hated. His constant dives and moaning was infuriating. But one cannot ignore his other skills either. World-class player. Spain has better strikers (who can actually score way more goals) yet Morata is the captain there. That says a lot.
These days I can forgive him for a dive or two as he works his *ss off on the pitch every time and is the leader we needed. Zirkzee who?
It’s interesting how Gabbia seems to have grown in these last 2 games into a leader, I’m not sure if Morata’s influenced him or not but something changed about him.
last year he played well but now the players are looking up to him, thanks also to Fonseca who galvanized him.
I never liked the idea of Milan signing MORATA because he isn’t a prolific striker but now I’m glad that we did.
No wonder he’s played for top teams in his career. I hope he’ll be free of injury, score some important goals and continued to carry this team on his back.
FORZA MILAN, FORZA MILAN ♥️🖤
100%
I always thought we should have bought him from Real when he became available.
Another good signing by management. I think Abraham has been just as important with the energy that he brings. Fofana looks like he’s settling in nicely in his role as well. Could it be that our “clueless management” knows more than the angry keyboard haters on here???
100% Morata and Tammy partnership has been far better that what it looked like on paper. I hope their synergy isn’t derailed by injuries.
Their work rate, leadership and energy has been an example to follow for the rest, especially Leao. Their movements are also important off the ball in how Fonseca has them providing balance to midfield.
emerosn singing was really dumb
