CorSera: Milan and Romagnoli included in the ‘hot summer of captains’ – the situation

By Isak Möller -

Alessio Romagnoli has been a starter for Milan in the last two friendly games, conceding zero goals in the process. However, it’s not certain that the captain will be playing from the first minute once the season starts.

In the second half of this past season, Romagnoli lost his spot in the starting eleven to Fikayo Tomori, with whom he has been playing these two games. The problem for him, therefore, is the return of Simon Kjaer from vacation.

Romagnoli remains behind in the hierarchy but he certainly has a chance of getting back his spot. As highlighted by today’s edition of Corriere Della Sera (via MilanNews), though, his future is a bit more complicated than that.

Just like Giorgio Chiellini of Juventus and Lorenzo Insigne of Napoli, Romagnoli’s future is uncertain as his contract will expire in 2022. ‘The hot summer of the captains’, the newspaper calls it, as it’s not 100% certain that the centre-back will remain.
