CorSera: Milan have chosen Giroud’s heir but there are obstacles to overcome

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have picked out the player they believe is the centre-forward for the future, but there are some obstacles that must be overcome before the deal is a reality.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) talks about the ‘great movement’ of forwards that is expected in the summer, such as Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid and potentially then Rafael Leao to PSG.

The paper has also highlighted how Bologna will struggle to keep their striker Joshua Zirkzee, who so far this season has amassed nine goals and six assists in 24 matches across all competitions under Thiago Motta.

Milan’s technical director Geoffrey Moncada really believes that the Dutchman can be the heir to Olivier Giroud , whose contract is expiring and a renewal is far from a formality, while there are doubts about Luka Jovic too.

Zirkzee has a contract with Bologna until 30 June 2026 so they are under no pressure to sell for anything less than his true value, especially given that the €40m clause in his contract only functions as a buy-back for Bayern Munich.

CEO Giorgio Furlani gave little away when asked about Zirkzee last night, but what is certain is that the Diavolo will make a concrete attempt for him in the summer, but the price is likely to be north of €40m.

  1. With all due respect to Zirkzee but everyone who knows him from before Serie A also knows he’s very inconsistent. We already have Jovic, so either get David or get out.

    1. David? LOL. So Zirkzee who scores doubledigits in Serie A is inconsistent and David isn’t? Sure, sure…. 😀 😀 😀

David would be a huuuuuge waste of pile of money. Not worth it.

  2. I do not like how Zirkzee misses sitters. Gives me Piatek vibes. I would rather get Sesko for the new coach to train him into a beast assuming we will actually get someone who knows what they are doing!

  3. I like ZIrkzee, he would be a good addition, but it’s odd that Milan seem so eager to push our leading goal scorer and assist man out the door.

  4. Well whoever we get ,,that’s fine ,,but yes it could be just a rumour,,,but let’s hope that Olivier Giroud still stays and fight for his place …Yes indeed our top scorer and provider of goals ,,,deserves to be offered a deal …We will have to wait and see ..
