CorSera: PSG director wants to sign Leao for a second time – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

There are growing rumours that Rafael Leao is a concrete summer transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain, and a report has suggested that they have a trump card to play.

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) writes that Kylian Mbappé is set to leave PSG on a free transfer for Real Madrid and thus they are on the lookout for potential replacements on the left wing.

Leao is one of the names near the top of their wish list. He is under contract with Milan until 30 June 2028 and he has a €175m release clause in his contract, as well as a salary of €7m net per season including bonuses.

There is an interesting detail regarding the clause though: it is only exercisable from the 5th to the 15th of July of each year. Outside of those dates, any interested club will have to negotiate with Milan.

PSG director Luis Campos is apparently ‘crazy about Leao’ because it was he who brought him to Lille from Sporting CP back in the summer of 2019.

However, it is not only Leao that is in the sights of the Parisians: they also like Victor Osimhen of Napoli, who has many admirers in the Premier League and could therefore end up in England.

  1. Honestly let him go already. He’s been mediocre this season, and last season. I guess that he can shine further when play is more directed at speed instead of passing, but Milan as a team play better when the ball is passed around, however in those games Leao is often invisible.
The difference with last year is that we perform even without him, and I guess he doesn’t like that. If he truly thinks he’s at the end of the cycle, I’ll gladly take 175 million for him.

      1. It’s 40% lower than our coppa winning season. Now he’s just 1 chance away from Demarco, kostic and 2 from Giroud.
If he truly believes he can’t learn anymore, and those are his stats then we should be happy to take the money.

          1. Leao isn’t getting better. All the talent in the world isn’t going to makeup for laziness. Puli tracks back. Makes runs inside the box. Last year we wanted a right winger to spread the defense for leao to have more room. We got that but leao has produced less.

Maybe it’s Pioli that’s the problem. Leao needs someone to call him out and push him. All the talent and speed he has he should be doing more.

        1. There’s something horribly wrong if Giroud is almost tied with a winger for chances created!!! It says more about the others than it does about Giroud. Not taking anything away from the Frenchman though.

    1. “He’s been mediocre this season, and last season”
Last season Leao had 16 goals and 15 assists, an all-time high !!
I understand he’s been bad this season, but if we give on every player because of a single season where the performance dropped we won’t go anywhere.

  2. No way in hell PSG is paying 175 mill Euro, but less can do. He is great, but for +100 million Euro ACM can build a new team, and a NextGen team as well for that matter.

  3. Leao is much more modest in performance this season but he is still useful in assists and actions from which concrete chances are created! I think all of these stories are still far from something concrete, but if it really comes to that he will be the one to decide his fate. It’s hard to keep a player who doesn’t want to. As far as I’m concerned, for a solid sum of money I’d be willing to sacrifice it !🤔
