CorSera: Milan face first real litmus test – a win vs. Napoli would reinforce new ambitions

By Oliver Fisher -

Sunday night will see two sides face off in Napoli and Milan that have somewhat surpassed expectations to begin the season.

As reported in today’s edition of il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), the game at the San Paolo will see two teams square off that can and must think big as the two most impressive and enthusiastic teams of the season so far.

There are three points at stake of course, but for Milan it is more than just that as this is the first true acid test of the season. The derby was a big win psychologically but it was played on matchday four, when the Rossoneri did not yet have that pressure on them which then grew from victory to victory.

At Milanello no one talks about the Scudetoo, but it is clear that a win in Naples would change every scenario, legitimising new ambitions.

As always, Milan will rely on their leader Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede – who was able to recharge his batteries during the break – is a coach on the field and tonight he will try to carry his team and give Gennaro Gattuso a displeasure.

That in itself will be an interesting sub-plot to the game: Gattuso vs. Ibrahimovic, a battle between two friends and leaders, a battle within a battle.
