Rafael Leao of AC Milan

CorSera: Milan in a mental and tactical tunnel with nobody free from blame

AC Milan entertain PSG at San Siro tomorrow night and they do so as a team that many consider to be in a crisis, with answers required from the attacking department and the leaders.

Thos morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) writes that nobody is free from blame in this dark period. After four games without a win (and three defeats) and on the eve of a must-win game against PSG, this is a very delicate moment both tactically and mentally.

An immediate turning point is therefore needed to prevent the season targets (Scudetto and Champions League round of 16) from vanishing before the new year. The collapse against Udinese amid the well-deserved boos at San Siro was just the latest instalment of a tough last few weeks.

Pioli is in the dock and rightly so. For now, the club confirm their trust in him but he must turn a corner. The question, however, is broader than just pointing the finger at the coach.

The attack no longer scores, the defence continually concedes goals, leadership is missing and the new signings – who had started well – are now in regression. Injuries are a partial mitigation, but the key men have often been available.

The paper adds the following on Rafael Leao: “He takes 7 million in salary, he can’t stay without anything for eight consecutive games.”

The ownership is close to the coach and the team, but Milan will have to emerge alone from the tunnel they have entered. The recovery of some injured players, from Theo Hernández to Christian Pulisic, in view of tomorrow’s match could help in the mission.

Fanboys say Leao brought Milan the last scudetto and he don’t have to do anything he doesn’t want to. Like defend. Or be useful when needed. So… Here we are. Without a win in 4 matches and one goal scored. Lost to Udinese FFS. But it’s fine. We’ve got the MVP.
