AC Milan and Inter are involved in a derby on multiple fronts with the Champions League semi-final clash looming on the horizon.
Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning how the Rossoneri and the Nerazzurri have the phrase ‘Champions League’ resonating around their respective environments at the moment, for two reasons.
On the one hand there is the two-legged derby in the semi-finals to come next month, while on the other hand there is the race to actually secure qualification for next year’s edition of the most important European club competition.
Milan and Inter are playing for their future in the coming weeks. It is no mystery that finishing in the top four is the main target because of the valuable revenues it brings to the accounts, which boosts the possibility when it comes to the transfer window and improving the squad.
However, the top four battle is not easy because there are many teams fighting. Napoli are already sure of a place, but for the other three spots there are Milan, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Roma and Atalanta all battling it out.
The Rossoneri and Nerazzurri also have another way to qualify for the 2023-24 Champions League: to win this year’s edition. However, even in this case the path is far from simple because either Manchester City or Real Madrid await in Istanbul, who are far stronger on paper.
