AC Milan’s rotation options were once again a let down on Friday night as the team were held to a 0-0 draw by Empoli at San Siro.
As Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan) writes this morning, Milan have been inconsistent for large patches of the season and part of the reason for this is because of the absence of a plan B. Beyond the starting players there is nothing but disappointment, which is not good enough for a team that plays 60 games a season.
Ante Rebic, Divock Origi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Charles De Ketelaere are the players who were expected to bring goals, but they have a total 6 between them. Nobody is able to replace Brahim Díaz, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao with the same level of performance.
Above all it is Origi who has disappointed, and he was even jeered by the fans at the time of his substitution in the 70th minute of the game against Empoli. He is in the prime of his career at 27, scored big goals for Liverpool and earns €4m net per season, yet so far he has just two goals for Milan.
Milan’s mission to play in the Champions League next season is becoming more complicated. There are 9 Serie A games left to hit the target, but an acceleration is needed because the team have won just once in their last five games.
After the midweek game in the Champions League, games against Bologna and Lecce follow before a match against José Mourinho’s Roma at the Olimpico, which will be huge in the top four race.
What si really sad is Milan and Inter share second best atk in italy with 48 goals..
Imagine the number if subs did they job 😀
Still Pioli made mistake not rotating frequently.
Statistical Milan would reach maybe same amount of points, and we would have less injuries…
Start of this year was very bad with our best available players. So, no matter what I think coach must rotate players regularly…
At the end of this season all players must be evaulated; how much they got salary and their effectiveness on pitch. Players with bad impact must be sold and new arrivals must arrive.
Exactly. Pioli didn’t rotate enough, that’s a fact. And that also might be the reason why our second team is in such bad form. I don’t know how people expect someone who has hardly played all season long to sudenly be in top form. That being said, specificly for Origi, i think unlike some others he has been given the playing time but he just isn’t good. He was a 3rd choice striker in Liverpool and bringing him was a mistake from the start. I mean the fact that he was the 3rd striker should have ring a bell to Maldini and Masara of how good this guy acttualy was.
The fact is that when Olivier Giroud starts we lose very few games ..This man is a technical genius and he knows where to be at the right moment ,this is not luck but skill ,yes he hasn’t got pace he never has ,but that’s not a problem as the first few yards are in his head …What we have is extreme pace around him which is very important..We have tried Rebec up front we have tried Orgi ,but they have failed to lead the line as Olivier does ,,had he and rafeol leao started the match against Empoli ,we have won the match make no mistake about that ,,yes whilst I agree that sometimes you have to rotate the squad ,five changes were too many ..
That said I think poli is a great manager ,and technical genius…Yes I do …I have every confidence in our team and firmly believe we will finish in the top four…
I also believe we will knock Napoli out of the champions leauge …it’s AC Milan for me ..fans please keep optimistic and hopeful..
As much as I love napoli fc,they can’t stand AC Milan!
They can’t win even at home against big clubs.
Look at what Lazio fc did to them at home….
It’s a win to nil in favour to AC Milan
