CorSera: Milan’s dream for the defence is Saint-Etienne star – the two alternatives

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s plans have been further complicated by the news that Leo Duarte has tested positive for Coronavirus.

The absence of the Brazilian means that Stefano Pioli is down to just Matteo Gabbia and Simon Kjaer as his fit centre-back options, and Thursday’s edition of il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) notes how Maldini and Massara would have wanted to sell the Brazilian in this window but have now had to change their plans.

The management must now accelerate in the search for a defender. The paper claims that the Rossoneri’s dream is Wesley Fofana, a 19-year-old talent from Saint-Étienne. Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer and Schalke 04’s Matija Nastasic are also on the list, but both would be considered alternatives to the young Frenchman.

Regarding Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina, Inter have also entered the race. The Nerazzurri are trying to sell Milan Skriniar and consider the Serbian the ideal replacement so a market derby could occur, but at the moment Milan are very far from the requests of Viola president Rocco Commisso.
