CorSera: Pioli has one final target before Milan farewell – work underway on successor

By Euan Burns -

Stefano Pioli’s final aim as the AC Milan coach is to ensure that the team finishes second in Serie A this season, with work underway to find his replacement.

As reported by Corriere della Sera (via Milan News), the Milan coach is not expected to be in the job next season having been knocked out of the Europa League and after losing the title to Inter at San Siro without much of a fight.

Pioli has got one year left on his deal but with the season effectively over for Milan, it is very hard to imagine him keeping his job.

The Rossoneri are currently second in Serie A and the least that Pioli can now do is deliver second place and access to the Champions League without a qualifying round.

There is no suggestion that Milan will make a change before the season ends, but work is already underway to find a replacement for Pioli and the name of Francesco Farioli has now been linked, the current coach of OGC Nice.

Various names like Julen Lopetegui, Mark van Bommel, Paulo Fonseca and Domenico Tedesco have been mentioned, among others, but Gerry Cardinale will have the final say on who replaces Pioli.
