AC Milan are on signing Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season, a report claims.

The 27-year-old moved back to BVB from Bayern Munich in 2016, but has struggled for game time this season in particular, making just five starts having fallen behind Jadon Sancho, Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt in the pecking order.

Nonetheless, il Corriere dello Sport (via SportsMole) are reporting that the Rossoneri are keen to see whether the 2014 World Cup winning goalscorer can do it in Italy, but competition may arrive from Bayer Leverkusen.

It was actually confirmed by Bild journalist Christian Falk recently that Gotze would strongly consider a move to Milan as he and his wife – who does a lot of modelling work – are fond of the city.

Gotze has made 217 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions, amassing 45 goals and 61 assists in that period, as well as 60 combined goals and assists for Bayern Munich in 114 games.
