Now that the season has officially ended it is time for clubs to begin making decisions regarding loan players, and that applies to Bologna with Alexis Saelemaekers.
Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via Radio Rossonera) talks about the future of Saelemaekers, who had some injury issues during the beginning of his loan spell at Bologna but then ended up making 32 appearances across all competitions, with four goals and three assists to his name.
According to what was reported by the newspaper, Bologna would like to buy Saelemaekers from Milan, but they have not yet made a final decision. For this reason, there are three scenarios that open up.
In the first scenario, their directors Di Vaio and Sartori agree to pay €10m to Milan in order to make his loan move permanent, which is the amount that the option to buy was set at last summer when the clubs shook hands.
The second hypothesis is that the former Anderlecht man returns to Milan and stays, presumably because Bologna decide they do not need him or choose to bring in someone else instead with their Champions League revenues.
Finally, there is a third possibility: Bologna could decide to let the June 30th deadline pass and then negotiate a new deal with Milan, potentially getting a more favourable price for Saelemaekers, though that carries its own risks.
Send him on loan elsewhere again and raise his price…
we got rid of saelemakers as a backup to buy chukuwueze for 30m… i recognize saelemakers isn’t a world class player but he is versatile and always gave his all for milan. he played a big role in our return to the champions league, scudetto win, and played a big role in getting bologna top 4. we are terrible at rewarding players for
Saelemakers was unhappy during the last part of 2022/23 because he wanted more playtime but Pioli was less and less convinced, I get what you say about him but unless we start him more often (ahead of Pulisic ?) he was always gonna be unhappy. IMO 10M for a player like him isn’t a bad deal at all.
If they don’t wanna pay I welcome him back in the team to spell Chuk on the right. Let Puli play the 10z
Can you imagine, with a young mobile striker instead of Giroud, the tactics they could run. If Leão gets back on top form, pairing with Theo and now directly combining with Pulisic at the #10. And Chuku continues his late season form, we know he has the ability. And with a good striker up front, and Tiji at the #8. Scary.

Yes, if we Play with Puli at 10 an Leo und chuku left and Right, we Need a very Defensive orientated Double Pivot. i dont see reijnders or loftus doing this job
With Reijnders and RLC/Musah playing double pivots? Yes I can. I can imagine us leaking double of what we did this season. Scary indeed.
Why would you want to move Pulisic out of the position he did great at? We solved the RW problem that we had for years now you want to move him. Because Chuku had like 2 good games? I don’t think so.
Because if Fonseca plays a 4-2-3-1 we need a CAM and that’s Pulisic natural position. And because the overall affect could be more goals as a team.
It’s not his natural position. He’s very rarely actually played there. Not saying he wouldn’t be good there, I think he could be, but CHuku has not shown at all that he is good enough to be our starting RW. Then we are right back to having a RW problem again. I think RLC did well there and I also think Reijnders might be a better option at the 10. I think Pulisic has more than earned that spot and there is no reason to create problems where there is none.
I mean Puli’s favorite position is LW, as he’s right footed. But he’s so good with both and loves to drift centrally, and a really good passer with vision. He has shown he can play any of LW, RW or CAM equally well. And he is losing some of his aggression to take defenders on 1 on 1 as he gets older, I think naturally he will become a CAM over the next few years.
Alexis is a very good player, it’s just that Pioli is a very indecisive and dumb person, he is still very very useful, and can play as a winger or even attacking midfielder, we need him back..,
