CorSport: Gabbia’s return not enough – the centre-back targets Milan are assessing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are expected to be active during the January transfer window and one of the areas they must strengthen is the defensive department, especially after Fikayo Tomori’s injury.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Matteo Gabbia will return to Milan. The Rossoneri’s first move will be the simplest and most obvious as they will recall their Primavera product from his loan spell at Villarreal.

This is an option that has many advantages, starting with the fact it does not have excessive costs and above all it guarantees you that you have a player ready to use, since Gabbia knows the league and the club well. Clearly however, Gabbia cannot be the only signing.

The Milan directors are looking to England. Clement Lenglet has given his approval to joining but first the loan agreement between Aston Villa and Barcelona must be terminated, then an economic agreement with the Blaugrana must be reached which is not easy given the Frenchman receives a salary of €6m net per season.

This is why the list is long and still contains the name of Jakub Kiwior at Arsenal, another player who already knows Serie A, but the problem is that the Gunners don’t want to loan him out. Finally, Nordi Mukiele from PSG was offered to the Rossoneri.

  1. Looks like that’s the end of the development of Simic and Bartesaghi. Hope you guys enjoyed seeing some great Primavera talents while it lasted. Now we’ll get to see more players come in that nobody cares about to fill a temporary hole.

    1. at this point it is hard to be Pioli. Clearly developing Simic would be the play but youngsters will make mistakes, it is part of their development. the time for Pioli to develop them has come and gone. Right now he wants to keep his job and playing an 18yr old for the next few months is very risky.
He should’ve rotate them so that we wouldnt be in this place to begin with but, what do i know

  2. When we have Tomori and Thiaw as our only serviceable CBs, our Mister Pioli has all the time and opportunity (as situation direly requires) to gradually phase in Simic and Bartesaghi. Instead, he rather risked Theo, Pobega, Krunic in an unfamiliar role. So the question and to whom we should really ask is: Does our Mister really consider our Primavera players as an option? Perhaps he is just too scare now and would rather use Giroud as our next towering CB!!! He is the one asking for defensive reinforcement in January. Perhaps, that tells us how much he ‘trusts’ our Primavera players.

  3. They talk about all these players they’d like to get. Why don’t they fix the actual issue which is the injury situation?. Why not look into what’s causing the issue. Why our players are so massively different than the rest of the league in terms of injuries. Maybe hire a reputable physio (Fraudsti doesn’t count). There are lots in the States I’m sure Gerry would know. Heck, doesn’t LeBron have a stake indirectly in us? Get his physio, dude is a machine at 38. His physical prep and care is amazing, like or dislike him
