CorSport: From David to De Ketelaere – Milan’s summer plan for the attack

By Euan Burns -

Whilst the focus right now for AC Milan is on bolstering the squad in the January transfer window, plans are also being made to improve the attack in the summer ahead of the 2024/25 season.

As has been reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), there are many names being linked with Milan for a summer move, some new and some old.

The main position that Milan need to focus on for the summer transfer window is centre-forward. Olivier Giroud is going to be out of contract and even if he stays for another year, he will need a better player than Luka Jovic to battle with for a starting position.

Naturally, Milan need to raise money, and there are two players that should help them do that. Rad Krunic’s move to Fenerbahce will be made permanent for €4.5m, whilst they expect to get €23m from Atalanta to make Charles De Ketelaere’s move permanent.

The fist name on the list of strikers still seems to be Lille’s Jonathan David. He is out of contract in 2025 so by the summer, there will only be one year left for him in France.

Milan are expected to talk more seriously with Lille once the January window has closed.

  1. Giroud has been a great servant but I think he should move on in summer.
We need to sort out the striker role with a long term solution.

    1. Player X – someone mobile
    2. Jovic – a good poacher
    3. Colombo – a good target man

Colombo is only 21 and like most strikers like Vlahovic or even Zirkzee etc they are only finding their feet at that age. He will continue to improve and next year at 22 he should start to really progress
I’d love to see us find another quality Brazilian forward with a bit of that flair and skill

    1. It’s a pity we missed out on Openda, I like him a lot.
Maybe we could do a trade, Chucky plus 30m. With the CDK money coming in it’s doable .

    2. Let’s find someone better than Giroud first, before we even think about letting him go. So far he has 10 goals and 6 assists in 17 games, only Inter strikers are better than him in the entire league. Even Joshua “50 million” Zirkzee can’t compete with that.
Giroud needs to stay, Jovic needs to go (as he’s a liability off the ball), and someone really good needs to come to prove that he’s better than Giroud. Letting him go after such good season would be madness.

    3. I think Colombro will need to be loaned once more. He did seem like a good prospect in Monza, but now he hasn’t scored or assisted in eons and will even lose his starting spot.
So it will be Giroud+Jovic+Player X
