CorSport: Kalulu plan behind Milan’s interest in €30m Aston Villa full-back

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are looking to strengthen themselves at right-back, and a report has suggested that one player could be the key to unlocking a move for one.

There are no glaring errors with the right-back position, and given Davide Calabria is the captain, his position is strengthened somewhat. However, there is still a desire from Milan to strengthen the competition for the position, and they are evaluating several prospects.

Emerson Royal and Tiago Santos have been the suggested names so far, and both are showing promising signs. The Brazilian has openly accepted the idea of a move to the Rossoneri, whereas talks have been in place with Lille for a while regarding their right-back, whose potential arrival is strengthened by Paulo Fonseca’s imminent arrival.

However, there is another option gaining strength. According to Corriere dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan) the Diavolo are looking at Matty Cash once again from Aston Villa, and he could cost around €30 million, an understandable amount given he has three years left on his contract.

If a deal were to be pursued, CorSport states that the vision is for Calabria to have a ‘viable alternative’, meaning that Pierre Kalulu would move back into a central area instead of being shoehorned out wide.

    1. get the best ones we can get! Real Madrid had 2 spanish players in their UCL final. A generous amount considering Alaba did not play and would’ve certainly taken one spot in the defence. (leaving only one spanish player).
IF the best players are italian, awesome, if not get the best ones.

  1. Cash is not an improvement to Calabria at all.

Cash will be 27yrls old in a few weeks from now, so there is no real potential to grow. Played whole career played for average English clubs (Nottm Forest and Aston), no bigger club ever reached for him. Not to mention he was not even taken into Polish squad for upcoming Euro (and Poland is not really a football superpower…), whereas guys like 31-yrs old Berenszynski from Empoli were taken.

  2. Here’s a crazy idea. Let’s go back to the Chelsea well and make a $50M offer for Reece James. They don’t really need him (they have Malo Gusto as a RB) and he could rejoin his buddies at Milan.

Theo on the left and James on the right would be terrifying to opponents.
