CorSport: Milan’s €100m summer spending must reap rewards – the details

The summer mercato was one of AC Milan’s biggest in recent memory due to the need to improve several areas and recruit a new head coach. So far, they are not showing any signs of progress, and whilst time is on their side, it will not be for much longer.

Before the January mercato, reports were suggesting that 2024 was a year for change in several ways. Milan were still led by an ageing Olivier Giroud – whose contract was ending shortly – and whilst his record was still impressive, there was a desire for new blood to lead the line.

The midfield was problematic in several ways, from composition to depth. Stefano Pioli’s tenure was seemingly coming to an end, and there was a general negative feeling around the club after a poor start to the season.

Therefore, the new season had to bring change, and it had to be positive.

To do this, the Rossoneri had a big summer, and as Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News) writes, the club spent €75 million on purchases, whilst adding €25m to the wage bill. Change had to arrive with these investments, right?

In some respects, it has. However, not in the right direction. Winless in their opening three games, the negativities from last season are still everpresent, and questions are being asked of the squad, the management, and the manager.

To compete at the top of the league is the aim, and whilst there is time left in the season to fulfil this, the Diavolo’s credentials to do this must be shown soon. A new gear must be found, if it isn’t, the noise will only grow.

  1. Aint happening.

Only one who has the potential to be better is Pavlovic. Rest are going down in value.

Saw Fofana last night, wouldnt measure up to Tonali’s left toenail as a midfielder.

Good job Furlani the slimeball, Good job.

  2. Pavlovic is good rest disaster. We can buy Calafiori when he was at Basel but no we tell he not good,we can buy Caisedo but some tell no he is not good,we can buy Ricci and Bellanova but no some tell Fonseca and Emerson is good and many many same situation.
So only we fans can make changes, how dont look and spent money at this clowns. When they buy Italians and good players we support, when not we need not watch them and that is.

  3. Doesn’t matter if you field Pavlo, or Maldini and Nesta in their prime into this defense. Without defensive midfield coverage they will/would all struggle to defend.
