CorSport: Milan benefit from referee’s ‘brave’ decision

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan did not make their fixture against Slavia Praha easy. However, they got the job done, and the officials made a pivotal decision which could have altered the game if it was not made.

Ahead of Thursday’s clash, the message was clear. Milan had to show their ability to dominate a tie, especially with the first leg taking place at San Siro, and whilst they will go to the second leg in Prague with a two-goal advantage, it should and could have been more.

For the third time this season, the Rossoneri hit their opponents for four. However, the fact that the side conceded twice is frustrating, especially considering the scenario they are in, where every result has to be close to perfect.

Aside from the goals, the biggest talking point of the game will be the red card for El Hadji Malick Diouf, who, in the 26th minute, was given his marching orders for a horrible challenge on Christian Pulisic.

As Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) writes, making a decision like that in the 26th minute of a clash with the magnitude of last night takes bravery from the referee, as many could have offered the Slavia defender a yellow and a stern warning, instead, he made the correct call, and from there Milan should have had a clear route to full-time.
