CorSport: Milan to use makeshift defence hoping to pull off miracle in Newcastle

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head to Newcastle United in the hopes of managing to pull off a miracle, but they will do so with a makeshift defence at their disposal.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about Newcastle-Milan, the final game in Group F of the 2023-24 Champions League group stage scheduled for tonight at 21:00 CET at St. James’ Park.

The Rossoneri coach, Stefano Pioli , will once again have to make a virtue of necessity in the starting line-up, especially in defence. In front of Mike Maignan, Davide Calabria and Alessandro Florenzi will play on the flanks, with Theo Hernández alongside Fikayo Tomori in the centre due to Simon Kjaer’s absence.

Fortunately for Pioli, however, there is also some good news in attack. Both Rafael Leão and Noah Okafor have recovered: the former will play from the beginning, the latter will start from the bench and will be an important option during the game like Samuel Chukwueze and Luka Jović.

Christian Pulisic will start on the right wing, while in midfield there will be room for the trio of Tijjani Reijnders, Yunus Musah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
