AC Milan return to Serie A action this weekend against Venezia, and with some important games awaiting the Rossoneri, Paulo Fonseca may rotate his squad slightly to prioritise the upcoming fixtures.
The footballing calendar is never generous, but it could be argued that it has been on this occasion. Milan face the Venice outfit before difficult games against Liverpool and Inter, which could dictate the season further than it has been.
Those games could also be the deciding factor in Paulo Fonseca’s future, with reports suggesting he has 14 days to save his job.
Therefore, the importance of returning with a winning start cannot be understated, and Corriere dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan) write that the Portuguese coach will start a near full-strength eleven.
The defensive structure needs to continue, especially with the same players, and Fonseca will continue with Mike Maignan, Emerson Royal, Tomori, Pavlovic and Theo Hernandez – who will return after last weekend’s controversy.
Even though Youssouf Fofana is not at 100%, Fofana is expected to start alongside Tijjani Reijnders – which is somewhat of a risk. Ruben Loftus-Cheek will start in the Trequartista role. However, there could be some movement between the English and Dutch duo.
Samuel Chukwueze is not expected to return until midweek, but he should start ahead of Christian Pulisic due to the American returning later. Rafael Leao will also return to the starting lineup, and Tammy Abraham should start his first game in Rossoneri colours.
The definition of madness is to do the same thing again and again expecting a different outcome !!
Well said but think its just nerves. Pressure is high. They played great in the preseason.
Theyll kick into gear eventually.
Loftus cheek is not attacking midfield is better rejnder play as the trequartista let’s liberali and Chaka otherwise I’m sorry Acmilan will not make it to the champions league if we continue remaining playing like this
Useless coach, Milan should have retain pioli
Playing Emerson instead of Calabria is madness enough, but the bigger issue is that even before all the trouble, Fonseca opted to keep last season’t 4-2-3-1 and the high press approach. What’s even the point in taking the job? Did he not prepare at all by watching tapes of our games where the problems with this formation and tactics are clearly visible? I mean, the sentence “what was the purpose of changing the coach” could be asked quite literally, since nothing strategy-wise seems to have changed, only the players’ motivation which is lower, compared to last season.
@ACM 1899 i 100% agree with you calabria is much better than emerson in both attacking and defending yes calabria has some defensive issues but still is much better than emerson royal that does a mistake every game and yes he should have watched our games last season and see our weakness and he got to know we dont have any real dm we dont have any real cam to play 4231 just bring back pioli yes he aint a world class coach but still won us the title and still didnt get all the players he want before fonseca was ac milan manager he said that he wanted emerson royal just show how ass this manager is
