CorSport: Milan schedule meeting for Leao’s renewal as PSG make first enquiry

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will once again rely on Rafael Leao who he hopes will be decisive against Hellas Verona just as he was last season.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes, Pioli is not planning on making any changes to the starting line-up compared to the team that took to the field against Juventus last weekend and Chelsea in midweek, and that means Leao will get the nod again on the left.

In the middle of next week a new meeting will be staged regarding the extension of the Portuguese international’s contract, which is expiring in 2024. Milan’s goal is to close the issue before the World Cup begins, but it will not be straightforward.

The real obstacle is the €16.5m (plus interest) that Leao has to pay to Sporting CP. The forward is confident that the club will contribute to the payment, but in addition to that he is asking for €7m net per season to extend, while the first enquiries have come from PSG with the Kylian Mbappe situation looking ominous.

  1. Mohammed theres no chance that Napoli sell the georgian boy for less then 100m and surely they are not gonna sell him!

  2. “the €16.5m (plus interest) that Leao has to pay to Sporting CP. ”

Nope. Leao needs to pay HALF of that. Lille will pay the other half.

  3. @Trojan – you must be an Inter fan lol. Pls go on that board. And my buddy @bb – NO Leao doesn’t need to pay half the fine – Lille should however. When your this in demand you have all the leverage unfortunately. So Leao can call the shits so to speak. It’s simple. Give him 7M pay his fine and extend. Then IF we need or want to sell down the road we do it from a position of strength and if these stories are true – PSG, Man City, Man U, etc…all want Leao – then we will sell for much more than 150M. Smart business is to lock up you biggest asset. 16.5M fine is nothing (if that’s what it takes to resign him) when we could sell for 200-250M easy. PSG will be looking to replace Mbappe. They won’t hesitate to pay such an amount for Leao IF we sell. So you sign him and secured your most valuable asset. You don’t tell him at this stage to pay his one fine. That ship has past. Things have changed. Too many teams want him and he keeps improving. If we don’t resign him before the WC and he has an amazing tournament – what do you think his market value will be then??? How much will he ask for? 7M is a bargain. Wanting to be paid one of the top salaries IN ITALY is reasonable. Sign him THEN IF NEEDED you sell later. You know like we should have done with Donarumma.

    1. This exactly! Leao is an investment at this point. The guy hasn’t even reached full potential ffs. How we haven’t renewed yet is embarrassing.

    2. Did you read the news before this? Mendes want to remove or at least reduce the release clause. That means if he is sign the new contract maybe he can leave for less than 150M,around 120 the news said

    3. “And my buddy @bb – NO Leao doesn’t need to pay half the fine – Lille should however. ”

WTF are you talking about? I’m talking about facts. The court has ordered Lille to pay half of the sum. Ie. Leao pays half, Lille pays half.
